2.8  JPEG

JPEG is a standard image format that can be generated by many image acquisition and image manipulation systems.

The "JPEG File" record that is created on import contains a thumbnail of the image in the file and the basic image metadata. In addition if EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format), IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) or GPS (Global Positioning System) metadata is present, this will be read into subrecords. Digital cameras often create this sort of metadata.
