NEW NIH DATASHARING REQUIREMENT RELEASED
Axiope featured in advice to investigators
Edinburgh, Scotland - February 16, 2004
NIH today released guidance to investigators on how to meet the
NIH data-sharing requirement, previously announced on February
26, 2003. The requirement mandates that every unsolicited
proposal which requests over $500,000 in direct costs in any
year MUST include a plan for sharing the research data
generated by the project in a timely fashion (on or soon after
the associated article's publication date). In advice to
investigators, NIH stated that:

"Axiope ... is developing flexible tools for managing
large volumes of metadata about local raw data (images,
binary files, data on CDs, etc). Their goal is to allow
scientists not only to organize their research data,
but also to share data more easily with collaborators.
Commercial data management and data sharing solutions
... are now available from www.axiope.com".

"We are encouraged that NIH has recognized the value of Axiope
software for helping investigators easily and affordably to
organize and share research data. Axiope supports efforts in
the United States, Europe and around the world to promote
sharing and publication of data gathered during publicly funded
scientific work, and of all clinical trial data," said
Nigel Goddard, CEO. "We believe the key to effective data sharing
is adequate description by the originators of shared data, and
Catalyzer is ideal for this task, as NIH has recognized."
Catalyzer is Axiope's innovative desktop software which makes
it easy for lab scientists to catalog, describe, archive and
share research data. Sharing data with the research community
is as easy as turning on the built-in web-server.
